Life is Never Boring – What a Week!

lady farmer and her cattle truck

The past week was a little bit more crazy than usual.  It started on the weekend when we took a touch football team from Roma to the Gold Coast for a one day carnival.  The Gold Coast is about a six and a half hour drive from Roma.  To give our kids access to top competitions we generally need to travel.  This was the first time Roma Rangers entered a team in this carnival – only took the one team this year to test the waters.  The U16 boys came away with a win in their Pool B, which was a great effort against their city counterparts.  We had to scramble in the end to find enough players, however it all worked out and the kids had a great time.

We hired a bus, with a few people sharing the driving, to take the team to the Coast.  We left on Saturday arvo and returned back to Roma around 1:30am Sunday (I mean Monday) morning.  I jumped off in Miles on the way home (a town about 1.5 hours from Roma) and slept in the car I left there Saturday afternoon for a few hours before having a shower and breakfast at a local servo and heading about an hour drive south to a stud cattle dispersal sale.  It was a long day, after inspecting the cattle, sitting through an auction of about 250 lots and sticking my hand in the air to bid on (and buy) a couple.  After the sale I travelled home, arriving just before dark.

The next couple of days were just normal office work days.  Then out to the to the farm to check on the water, cattle and feed; before jumping in the truck to go pick up the cattle I purchased a few days earlier.  They all arrived home safe and sound.
